Leopard Gecko

The Leopard Gecko (Eublepharis macularius) is a small, ground-dwelling gecko native to the dry regions of South Asia. Its natural range extends across parts of Afghanistan, Pakistan, northwestern India and eastern Iran, where it inhabits arid and semi-arid environments. 

In the wild, Leopard Geckos are associated with rocky terrain, dry grasslands, scrub and semi-desert habitats. They commonly make use of cracks, crevices and other sheltered spaces within rocky ground rather than living on loose desert sand. Their ability to shelter in protected retreats is particularly important in environments where temperatures can fluctuate considerably. 

Leopard Geckos are primarily terrestrial and are largely nocturnal, emerging from shelter to hunt. They are opportunistic predators, feeding mainly on invertebrates such as insects. Unlike many gecko species, they possess movable eyelids and lack the adhesive toe pads associated with climbing geckos. 

Their distinctive spotted appearance, manageable size and fascinating natural history have made the Leopard Gecko one of the most established species in the reptile hobby.
